Jeannette Young currently teaches music education methods and supervises student teachers. During the summer,
she is the administrator of Wesleyan's Kodály
Certification Program.
Professor
Young earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction
from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her dissertation
research on middle school music education is supported
in part by the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
Berneta Minkwitz Scholarship, the Delta Kappa Gamma
Rho State Scholarship and the Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha
Alpha Chapter Scholarship. Professor Young holds a Master
of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha,
and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her Kodály
Certification from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc,
Wisconsin, in 1991, under the direction of Sr. Lorna
Zemke. She been an active member of the International
Organization of Kodály Educators (IKS), the Organization
of American Kodály Educators (OAKE), the Plains
States Kodály Organization (PSKOR), Nebraska
Music Educators Association (NMEA), the Nebraska Choral
Directors Association (NCDA), and the Voice Care Network
of St. JohnÕs University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
Prof.
Young has experience teaching music from kindergarten
through college, with 19 years of elementary and junior
high vocal music instruction in the Papillion-LaVista
School District, and 3 years as the vocal music instructor
at Schuyler Central High School. Prior to becoming a
member of the Nebraska Wesleyan music faculty, she was
an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Omaha
teaching elementary music methods and music fundamentals
for classroom teachers. In 1995-96 she was a graduate
assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where
she taught choral literature and supervised student
teachers in music education.

Young has presented clinics on "Learning Enhancement
Through Movement" and "Kinesiology as Applied
to Music Education" for the Midwest Kodály
Music Educators in Dayton, Ohio; the Nebraska Music
Educators Conference in Lincoln; an Omaha Public Schools
inservice session; a Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
meeting in Sarpy County; and an E.S.U. #3 inservice
in Omaha.
Prof.
Young's husband, David, is also a Nebraska music educator.
